reinventing the ignore feature

hi.

I have an idea about the ignore feature.

my idea is, that in sted of all the choices we have (quicknotes, board posts, etc) why not when you add someone to the ignore list you just ignore the lot?

my reasoning's simple:

if you're ignoring someone (say their quicknotes), then why would you want to keep it so that they can send you a private message or add you to person watch?

in what world do people only half ignore someone. if you ignore someone, it should just be everything.

I know they have the ignore everything link their, but that's not my point.

my point is that you shouldn't get the choice when ignoring someone.

in reality, it's like falling out with someone and saying well... I won't talk to you, I won't let you come round my house, but i'll still respond to any letters that you send me, and hey, you can leave me voicemails, that's fine too

just does not add up.

anyone got thoughts on this?

Sure. I feel it is exactly as it should be.
Sometimes you want to ignore say quick notes, but board topics can are are helpful posted by someone you might not enjoy the quick notes the send.
Lets use me for example. I have gotten in to heavy discussions about religion in quick notes, and folks have gotten upset and don't like my views.
The current settings give them the choice to ignore that, but my technical advise has and does help that same person.
So. Smile.

I must agree with Wayne on this one. I'm sure plenty of people ignore me in QN's because of the stupid things I say, but sometimes, maybe I post something on the boards that helps them. They still have the option of ignoring everything if they wish, but that is their right. Also, if you are in a discussion on the Boards, and you want to follow the entire flow of conversation, you may wish to ignore someone's quicknotes while still having the option to maintain the conversation thread in a topic. I see your point, but I hope you can also see mine. Smiles.

Agree with what's been said here. And I'm sorry but one extra key stroke to press "ignore everything" is not gonna hurt you.

More than once, I have been added to someone's ignore quick notes by accident. Being able to send a message permitted me to inquire why, and alerted them that they had blocked me by mistake.

Ah, yes, there's that.
It happens often.

Not if you have all quicknotes disabled. LOL.

Or you remove that link from your quick notes, but for the rest of us?
Laughing.
I never ignore anyone. I might miss a tip, or good information.
Mainly, I just might miss something really amusing, so.
Smile.

I have never ignored anyone either. If a problem arrises, it's better to clear the air. Though I can see why sometimes women here have to. Some guys on here are relentless.

I think Scott said this best. There are several people I have on ignore because I don't wish to be contacted via QuickNotes or private messages, but they occasionally post interesting things to the boards. That, and as has been pointed out, it makes a board hard to follow if someone you have on ignore is a frequent poster to the thread you're interested in. This way you can still follow conversations, but not get contacted directly. I personally like the ignore feature just as it is.
